Your countertop edge profile is one of the few custom choices visible every time you walk into the kitchen. Alpine Countertops fabricates every edge profile shown below in granite, quartz, marble, quartzite, and porcelain, shaped on our own equipment at our Richmond facility.

How to choose an edge profile

Three things to consider:

  • Cabinet style. Traditional or Shaker cabinets pair well with softer, decorative edges (bullnose, ogee, dupont). Modern flat-panel cabinets look best with clean, angular edges (eased, bevel, mitered).
  • How the counter is used. Families often prefer fully-rounded bullnose edges — fewer sharp corners at waist height. High-traffic kitchens benefit from harder-wearing eased or quarter-round edges that resist chipping.
  • The stone itself. Heavily-veined marble and granite highlight simple edges; uniform quartz patterns can carry more decorative profiles without looking busy.

Understanding each profile

  • Eased / Square — a 90° edge with the corners slightly softened and polished. The most modern and contemporary choice.
  • Bevel — a 45° chamfered top edge. Sharp, architectural, and easy to clean. Popular on quartz in modern and transitional kitchens.
  • Quarter Round — a lightly rounded top edge with a flat bottom. Softer than a bevel and forgiving on older cabinets.
  • Full Bullnose — fully rounded top and bottom. Traditional, family-friendly, and common on bathroom vanities.
  • Ogee — an S-curve profile. Decorative and elegant — a classic choice for marble and granite in traditional and transitional kitchens.
  • Dupont — similar to ogee but more angular. Reads as formal and layered.
  • Cove / Cove Ogee — layered S-curves with an inward scoop. The most decorative profiles, best suited to islands and feature counters in luxury kitchens.
  • Mitered / Waterfall — a vertical fabrication where the countertop continues down the side of the island. Creates a modern, monolithic look; requires a slab with matched veining for a seamless appearance.
