Quartz Countertops Burnaby
Burnaby is one of the more architecturally diverse cities in Metro Vancouver, and that diversity drives a lot of what we see in countertop work here. A glass tower kitchen in Metrotown asks completely different questions than a 1960s split-level on Capitol Hill or a craftsman renovation in Burnaby Heights. Quartz is the material that answers most of those questions well — strata-friendly in condos, hard-wearing in family homes, and available in enough finishes to suit anything from a minimalist Brentwood penthouse to a warm transitional kitchen above Hastings Street. Alpine Countertops has been fabricating and installing quartz for Burnaby clients since 2015 from our Richmond facility, and we are BBB A+ accredited.
Why quartz works in Burnaby kitchens
Burnaby splits into two broad worlds for kitchen renovations, and quartz earns its place in both. The high-rise condo market — Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed, Edmonds — produces a steady volume of strata kitchen renovations: refreshed peninsulas, replaced original developer-grade tops, and full kitchen rebuilds in resold units. The detached suburban market — Burnaby Heights, Capitol Hill, Westridge, Government Road, Forest Glen, Buckingham Heights — produces full kitchen renovations in homes ranging from 1950s post-war bungalows to 1990s family builds and recent infill rebuilds.
For Burnaby condos, quartz is the practical default. It is strata-friendly: predictable patterns mean small slabs cut from the same lot match closely across an open-concept peninsula and waterfall, and the lighter weight versus heavy granite simplifies the elevator move that every tower kitchen requires. Strata renovation rules typically demand insurance, scheduled service-elevator bookings, floor protection, and quiet-hour compliance — all of which we handle as part of standard condo work. The dominant aesthetic in Brentwood and Metrotown towers leans cool and contemporary, with grey-veined quartz and subtle marble-look whites carrying most of the kitchen specifications we see.
For Burnaby’s detached homes, the calculation shifts. These are family kitchens that get genuine use, and the brief is usually a surface that handles years of normal life without staining or annual maintenance. Engineered quartz is non-porous because the polymer resin fills every micro-pore, so it does not absorb liquids the way natural stone does. Coffee, red wine, turmeric, and citrus all wipe clean, and there is no sealing routine to remember. Visually, the warm beige and soft white-with-veining options favoured in Heights and Capitol Hill kitchens read beautifully against the warmer wood floors and shaker cabinetry common in those homes.

Quartz brands and options at Alpine
We stock samples for the major quartz manufacturers at our Richmond showroom. Each brand has its own visual personality, and a thoughtful match to your existing cabinets, flooring, and lighting matters more than the name on the back of the slab.
- Caesarstone — broad range, reliable supply, strong in marble-look whites (Calacatta Nuvo, Statuario Maximus, Empira White) and mid-grey concrete-looks that suit Brentwood and Metrotown towers. The brand most Burnaby homeowners arrive having heard of.
- Silestone — Cosentino’s quartz line, with hybrid and lower-resin formulations that can read more organic. Strong bold-veined options for island feature pieces, specified frequently in larger Capitol Hill and Heights renovations.
- Vicostone — strong value in marble-look slabs with deeper, cooler veining. Often hits a price point below comparable Caesarstone or Silestone equivalents while keeping visual quality competitive — useful for Metrotown investor units and rental rebuilds.
- Hanstone — Korean-manufactured quartz with a deep range of warm whites and beige-leaning veining. A frequent specification for transitional Burnaby kitchens, particularly older Heights and Capitol Hill homes, where stark cool grey would feel mismatched against warmer cabinetry.
- Cambria — North American manufacturer with high-movement veined patterns and a lifetime residential warranty. Larger-format slabs reduce visible seams on long runs — useful in open-concept tower kitchens where peninsula and island read as one continuous surface.
- OmniaQuartz and Firstone — additional lines for clients balancing budget against finish quality. Both produce capable everyday surfaces and broaden the available colour range.
Across our Burnaby work, two patterns dominate. Grey-veined quartz on a clean white background accounts for a large share of our condo specifications, particularly in Brentwood and Metrotown towers. Warm white and beige with subtle veining accounts for a similar share of detached-home work in Heights, Capitol Hill, and Westridge, where the cabinetry tends to be shaker-style. Quartz care in Burnaby’s climate
Quartz is genuinely low-maintenance, which is part of why it works for Burnaby renters, condo owners, and busy detached-home families equally well. There is no sealing, no waxing, no annual routine. Day-to-day cleaning is warm water and mild dish soap; for tougher residue, a non-abrasive surface cleaner. Acidic spills like lemon, vinegar, and tomato will not etch the surface the way they would etch marble.
Two precautions matter: heat and harsh chemicals. The polymer resin can be damaged by sustained direct heat — a hot pan straight off the stove or a tray straight from the oven can discolour or crack the slab. Always use a trivet. Oven cleaner, paint stripper, and other strongly alkaline or solvent-based products should also be kept off quartz. Burnaby’s damp winter climate is otherwise a non-issue. For a fuller routine, see our guide on how to clean and care for quartz countertops and our product care page.
Pricing — what affects quartz cost
Quartz pricing in Burnaby is not a single number — two similar-looking kitchens can land at meaningfully different totals. We itemize quotes so the variables are visible. The major drivers:
- Brand and slab tier. Within any one manufacturer, slabs are tiered (typically three to five bands) by pattern complexity, vein definition, and slab size. A standard solid white in Tier 1 sits well below a high-movement marble-look in Tier 4.
- Square footage and slab yield. Total square footage matters, but so does layout — narrow L-shapes can yield poorly from a slab and effectively cost more per usable foot than a clean rectangular island.
- Edge profile. Eased and squared edges are baseline. Mitred waterfall edges, ogees, bullnoses, and stacked profiles add fabrication time.
- Cut-outs and complexity. Undermount sinks, cooktop cut-outs, faucet holes, and integrated drainboards each add labour.
- Removal and disposal. Tearing out an existing surface is its own line item.
- Strata access logistics. Tower projects with elevator booking, after-hours work, or restricted parking carry their own coordination overhead, which we factor into the quote rather than absorbing into the rate.
Our process — template to installation
Every Burnaby quartz project at Alpine moves through the same four-step sequence. First, a free in-home consultation with physical samples on site. Second, digital laser templating once cabinets are in. Third, fabrication at our Richmond facility on our own equipment, with no subcontractors handling the stone. Standard turnaround is 2 to 3 weeks from template to install. Fourth, installation by Alpine crews — including elevator coordination and floor protection for tower projects, and removal of old surfaces for detached-home renovations. One company, one quote, one number to call if anything needs adjustment. Read more on the about page.
Quartz countertop FAQs
Do you handle strata paperwork and elevator bookings for Burnaby tower projects?
Yes. For condo projects in Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed, Edmonds, and the rest of Burnaby’s tower neighbourhoods, we book the service elevator, submit the strata’s required renovation forms, and provide insurance documentation in advance. We also bring our own floor protection and clean to building standards. This is standard practice for our condo work, not an add-on service.
Will quartz stain or etch from everyday spills?
No. Engineered quartz is non-porous, so it does not absorb liquids and will not stain from coffee, red wine, turmeric, beet juice, or citrus under normal use. It also does not etch from acidic spills, which sets it apart from marble. The only meaningful precaution is heat — always use a trivet for hot pans straight off the stove or oven, because the polymer resin can be damaged by sustained direct heat.
How long does a typical Burnaby kitchen install take, start to finish?
From the day we template, fabrication and installation usually take 2 to 3 weeks. The actual install day is typically a single day for most kitchens; larger projects with multiple bathrooms or extensive backsplashes may run a second day. Tower projects are scheduled around the building’s permitted renovation hours and elevator availability, which we coordinate with the strata in advance.
