Surrey Countertops
Surrey is the fastest-growing city in British Columbia, and the kitchens we fabricate here reflect it: bigger islands, longer runs, more seating, and floor plans built for families that actually cook and eat together. Alpine Countertops has been templating, fabricating, and installing premium stone surfaces in Surrey since 2015. Every project is fabricated at our Richmond facility on our own equipment and installed by our own crews — no subcontracting, no third-party shops. We are BBB A+ accredited, stock over 100 colours and patterns, and most jobs are completed in two to three weeks from template to installation.
How Surrey kitchens are different
Surrey is unusual in Metro Vancouver because most of its housing stock is detached and most of its lots are generous. From Cloverdale’s heritage town centre to South Surrey and Morgan Creek’s golf-course estates, kitchens here are typically open-plan, family-scale, and built around a substantial island — often eight to twelve feet long. That changes the conversation. Slab selection isn’t only about colour and pattern; it’s about how a single piece of stone reads across a long horizon, how seams are placed, and whether a waterfall end is on the table.
Newton, one of the most multicultural communities in Canada, brings its own kitchen culture: serious cooking surfaces, secondary spice or wok kitchens, and clients who push us toward heat-tolerant, easy-to-clean materials like granite, quartzite, and high-performance quartz. We routinely fabricate dual-kitchen layouts for Newton, Sullivan Heights, and Panorama Ridge homes.
The newer subdivisions in Fleetwood, Guildford, Fraser Heights, and Clayton Heights are dominated by 2010s and 2020s family builds — large two-storey detached homes with butler’s pantries, oversized islands, and generous appliance packages. White quartz with subtle grey veining (Calacatta-pattern Caesarstone, Silestone) is the most-requested aesthetic, often paired with shaker or slab cabinetry. Whalley and the Surrey City Centre highrise market is another category entirely — denser, more contemporary, and increasingly common for our smaller-footprint, modern-edge installations.
Climate-wise, Surrey is slightly drier and more temperature-variable than Vancouver proper, which makes outdoor kitchens and covered patio bars practical. We see strong demand for porcelain and Dekton in those spaces because they handle UV and freeze-thaw cycles where indoor-grade quartz cannot.
Cabinetry trends in Surrey lean practical. Two-tone kitchens — a coloured perimeter with a contrasting island — are common in Clayton Heights and Grandview Heights, and we spend much of every consultation matching the island slab against the perimeter cabinet finish. Floors here are usually engineered hardwood or large-format porcelain tile, both of which read warm against soft-grey or cream-veined countertops.
Materials we fabricate for Surrey homes
We work in every major hard-surface category, and we pick the right one for the way your kitchen will actually be used.
- Quartz — the dominant choice in new Surrey construction. Brands include Caesarstone, Silestone, Vicostone, Hanstone, OmniaQuartz, Cambria, and Firstone. Non-porous, never needs sealing, and engineered to handle the wear of a busy family kitchen. Pattern options now span everything from clean whites to dramatic dark veining.
- Granite — still a favourite for Newton, Cloverdale, and South Surrey clients who want one-of-a-kind natural pattern and excellent heat tolerance. Requires periodic sealing, which we cover in our care guide.
- Quartzite — natural stone with the look of marble and the toughness closer to granite. A frequent recommendation when clients want the soft, veined aesthetic without the etching risk of true marble.
- Marble — used selectively in Surrey kitchens, more often in feature islands, butler’s pantries, and bathroom vanities. We always discuss the patina and acid-etching reality before installing it in a primary cooking zone.
- Porcelain and Dekton — large-format, ultra-compact slabs ideal for Surrey’s outdoor kitchens, covered patio bars, and contemporary Whalley high-rise installations where a thin profile or a stone-look exterior surface matters.
If you’re weighing options, our quartz vs. granite comparison covers the trade-offs in detail, and our quartz care guide walks through everyday maintenance.
Edge profile is a small detail that changes the feel of a Surrey kitchen significantly. Eased and square edges read contemporary and pair well with modern shaker or slab cabinetry — the dominant style in Clayton Heights and Fraser Heights new builds. Mitred 2cm edges create the visual mass of a thicker top without the slab cost and are popular on islands. Bullnose, ogee, and bevelled profiles still appear in Cloverdale and South Surrey traditional renovations where the millwork calls for them. Every profile is finished in-house at our Richmond shop.
Our process — template to installation
We follow the same disciplined sequence on every Surrey project. It begins with a free in-home consultation: we drive out to your address, measure the space, look at your cabinets and lighting, and bring physical samples so you’re choosing colours in your own kitchen, not under showroom lights. Once you’ve approved a slab, we book a digital laser templating visit — typically after cabinets and the sink are on site. Laser templating captures every wall scribe and out-of-square corner to within a millimetre, which matters on Surrey’s longer island runs.
Fabrication happens at our Richmond facility. Cuts, polishes, mitres, sink cut-outs, faucet bores, and edge profiles are all dialled in on our own equipment before anything leaves the shop. Installation is handled by our trained crews, who scribe, level, seam, and finish on site. Most kitchens are installed in a single day. Total turnaround is two to three weeks from template to installation.
Because every step is under one roof, the practical benefits add up: change requests are simpler, seam decisions are made by the same person who cut the slab, and accountability is direct. Surrey is far enough from our Richmond shop that coordination matters — we plan delivery routes around peak Highway 99 and Pattullo Bridge traffic, and our crews arrive with a full toolkit so on-site adjustments don’t require a second visit. Surrey countertop FAQs
Can you fabricate a single-piece island for a large Surrey kitchen? Often yes, depending on slab size and material. Most quartz brands offer slabs around 120–130 inches long, and many natural stone slabs are similar or larger. For runs that exceed slab length, we use bookmatched seams placed under cabinetry breaks or appliance gaps so they’re as invisible as possible. We’ll confirm what’s achievable when we measure your space.
What’s the best surface for a Newton spice or wok kitchen? For high-heat secondary kitchens we typically recommend granite or quartzite. Both are natural stone with strong heat tolerance and easy cleanup. Quartz is excellent for the main kitchen but is engineered with resin binders, so trivets are essential under hot cookware.
Do you handle outdoor kitchen installations in South Surrey? Yes — we fabricate outdoor counters using porcelain and Dekton, both of which are UV-stable and freeze-thaw rated. Indoor-grade quartz is not recommended outdoors because UV exposure can cause discolouration over time.
How long does a full Surrey countertop project take from first call to install day? Most projects run two to three weeks from the digital template visit to installation. Before templating, we typically need one to two weeks for the in-home consultation, slab selection, and quote — so plan on roughly four to five weeks total from first call, assuming your cabinets are on site. Larger custom islands and bookmatched slabs can run slightly longer.
Are you set up for Surrey townhouse and condo strata installations? Yes — we handle strata documentation, building elevator bookings, and noise-window coordination. Whalley and Surrey City Centre high-rise projects are part of our regular work, and our crews are practised with the access requirements that strata buildings impose.
