Coquitlam Countertops
Coquitlam kitchens sit between two backdrops: the Coast Mountains rising to the north and the Fraser River drawing a line to the south. That geography shows up in our work — bigger windows, lighter finishes, and a steady demand for surfaces that pair cleanly with views of fir and snow. Alpine Countertops has been fabricating granite, quartz, marble, quartzite, and porcelain for Coquitlam homes since 2015. Every slab is templated digitally, fabricated at our Richmond facility, and installed by our own crews. We are BBB A+ accredited, stock over 100 colours and patterns, and most projects are finished in two to three weeks from template to installation.
How Coquitlam kitchens are different
Coquitlam splits into a handful of very distinct neighbourhoods, and the kitchens reflect that. Burke Mountain is one of the most active new-build areas in Metro Vancouver — large detached family homes, two-storey foyers, oversized islands, and butler’s pantries. White and grey-veined quartz dominates here, paired with shaker cabinetry and engineered hardwood. Slab choices are practical first: families want surfaces that look polished and survive lunchboxes, baking, and homework.
Westwood Plateau is the established luxury equivalent: 1990s and 2000s detached homes on hillside lots with mountain views. We see more renovation work here, often replacing original tile or laminate counters with full quartz or quartzite remodels. Vaulted ceilings and large windows mean lighting is variable across the day, which we factor into colour matching during the in-home consultation.
Coquitlam Centre and the Town Centre area — Pinetree, Lougheed Town Centre boundary, and the SkyTrain corridor — is a high-rise market. Smaller footprints, modern finishes, and a strong appetite for thinner profiles, mitred waterfall edges, and bookmatched veining. We fabricate plenty of Dekton and porcelain in these towers because both can be cut thinner without compromising structure.
Maillardville, BC’s historic French-Canadian community, brings character renovations: smaller heritage cottages, mid-century rebuilds, and modest lot sizes that reward careful slab planning. Eagle Ridge, Como Lake, and Harbour Chines are dominated by older detached homes — many original to the 1960s and 1970s — where we’re often replacing failing laminate or tile with a fresh quartz or granite kitchen.
Coquitlam also gets more rainfall than the Lower Mainland average and slightly cooler winters at elevation, which makes covered patio kitchens popular. Porcelain and Dekton are the right answer for those outdoor installations because they are UV-stable and freeze-thaw rated where indoor-grade quartz is not.
Two-tone kitchens are the dominant trend in Burke Mountain and Westwood Plateau renovations: a coloured perimeter (deep navy, forest green, or warm taupe) with a contrasting white or grey-veined island. The island slab does most of the visual work in those layouts, which is why we spend more time than people expect on slab walks at our Richmond yard — picking the exact piece of stone that will end up across the kitchen.
Materials we fabricate for Coquitlam homes
We carry every major hard-surface category and recommend based on how your kitchen actually gets used.
- Quartz — the most-installed material in Burke Mountain new builds and the safe-default in family kitchens. Brands include Caesarstone, Silestone, Vicostone, Hanstone, OmniaQuartz, Cambria, and Firstone. Non-porous, never seals, easy to maintain.
- Granite — strong heat tolerance and one-of-a-kind natural pattern. A frequent choice for Westwood Plateau and Eagle Ridge clients renovating older detached homes who want a stone with character.
- Quartzite — natural stone with marble’s soft veining and toughness closer to granite. The right answer when clients want the marble look in a working kitchen without the etching risk.
- Marble — used selectively in feature islands, butler’s pantries, and bathroom vanities. We will install marble for clients who appreciate the patina; we’ll redirect to quartzite or Calacatta-pattern quartz for those who don’t.
- Porcelain and Dekton — large-format, ultra-compact, UV-stable. Ideal for Coquitlam’s covered outdoor kitchens, fireplace surrounds, and Town Centre high-rise installations.
Our marble vs. quartz vanity guide walks through the trade-offs in more detail, and the quartz vs. granite article covers the kitchen choice. For everyday maintenance, see our quartz care guide.
Edge profile is a small but loaded decision. Eased and square edges read contemporary and suit Burke Mountain and Town Centre new construction. Mitred 2cm edges create the look of a thick slab without the cost and are very popular on Coquitlam islands. Bullnose, ogee, and bevelled still appear in Maillardville and Como Lake heritage renovations where they pair with traditional millwork. Every edge is profiled at our Richmond shop.
Our process — template to installation
Every Coquitlam project follows the same disciplined sequence. We start with a free in-home consultation: we drive to your address, measure the space, look at your cabinets and lighting, and bring physical samples so you can judge colour in your own home. Once your slab is selected, we book a digital laser templating session — typically once cabinets and the sink are on site. Laser templating reads every wall scribe and out-of-square corner to within a millimetre.
Fabrication happens at our Richmond facility on our own equipment. Cuts, polishes, mitres, edge profiles, sink cut-outs, and faucet bores are all completed before delivery. Installation is done by our own crews — never subcontracted — who scribe to walls, level, seam, and silicone on site. Most kitchens are installed in a single day, and total turnaround is two to three weeks from template to installation.
Because every step is in-house, change requests are easier to absorb. If your designer wants to revise the edge profile after seeing the slab in the room, or your plumber needs a faucet hole moved, we adjust at our Richmond shop without the back-and-forth of multiple subcontractors. For more on the questions to ask any fabricator before signing, see our guide on how to choose a countertop fabricator.

Coquitlam countertop FAQs
What’s the best material for a Burke Mountain family kitchen with kids? Quartz is hard to beat for active family life. It’s non-porous, won’t stain from juice, wine, or coffee, and never needs sealing. White and soft-grey patterns are the most-requested aesthetic in new Burke Mountain builds, and they hide everyday smudging better than highly polished black or dark surfaces.
Can you replace tile or laminate counters in an older Eagle Ridge or Como Lake home? Yes — that’s a substantial part of our work in older Coquitlam neighbourhoods. We remove the existing surface, check the cabinet structure (older cabinets sometimes need bracing for stone weight), template the space, and install the new countertop. The full process typically takes two to three weeks.
How does Coquitlam’s wetter climate affect countertop choice? Indoors, the climate doesn’t change much — humidity is well-managed by HVAC. Outdoors, on covered patios or three-season rooms, we steer toward porcelain or Dekton because they’re UV-stable and freeze-thaw rated. Indoor-grade quartz is not recommended for outdoor use because it can discolour with UV exposure.
How long does the full Coquitlam project take from first call to installed kitchen? Most projects run two to three weeks from the digital templating visit to installation day. Before templating, we typically need one to two weeks for the in-home consultation, slab selection, and quote — so plan on four to five weeks total from your first call, assuming cabinets and sink are already on site. Bookmatched islands and complex layouts can add a week.
Do you fabricate vanities and fireplace surrounds, or only kitchens? We fabricate the full range — kitchens, ensuite vanities, powder room countertops, fireplace surrounds, outdoor BBQ counters, and commercial reception desks. Many Coquitlam clients renovate kitchen and ensuite together; bundling fabrication is more efficient and gives a coherent material story across the home.
